Happy New Year: the Perfect Time for a Fresh New Headshot in Holly Springs, Raleigh, and Durham.

A new year brings fresh beginnings, and 2025 is no exception. Whether you're looking to update your LinkedIn profile, refresh your personal website, or elevate your company branding, a professional headshot session is the perfect way to start the year with confidence and style. Headshots have come a long way from stiff, corporate portraits. They’re now dynamic, creative, and can showcase not just who you are but also what you’re about.

If you’ve been putting off getting a new headshot, here’s why you should prioritize it this year and how to make the most of the experience.

Why Update Your Headshot for 2025?

1. Stay Current in a Competitive Market

Whether you're a job seeker, a small business owner, or a creative professional, your headshot is often the first impression people have of you. A headshot that's more than a few years old can feel outdated and disconnected from the current you. A fresh, high-quality headshot signals that you're active, professional, and ready to engage in 2025.

2. Align Your Image with Your Personal or Business Brand

Your headshot is part of your personal or business branding. A good headshot captures your personality and energy in a way that matches your brand’s tone. Whether your brand is sleek and modern, approachable and friendly, or creative and edgy, your headshot should reflect those qualities.

3. Embrace Versatility with Lifestyle Shots

Modern headshot sessions don’t just have to be about close-up, tightly framed portraits. Many professionals are opting for looser, lifestyle-inspired shots that include more of the background or show them in action. These images are perfect for branding, as they give context and help tell a story about who you are or what your business is about.

Tips for a Fun and Relaxing Headshot Session

Plan Your Wardrobe and Look

Think about what you want your headshot to convey. Choose outfits that reflect your personal or business style, but also keep it simple and timeless. Solid colors and subtle patterns work best, as they won’t distract from your face. If you’re doing lifestyle shots, consider adding a second outfit that matches your professional or creative environment.

For grooming, make sure your hair and makeup are done in a way that feels natural to you. Consider bringing a brush, powder, or other touch-up tools to keep your look fresh throughout the session.

Relax and Trust the Process

It’s normal to feel nervous before a headshot session, but remember that your photographer is there to guide you. Take a few deep breaths, focus on having fun, and let your personality shine. A good photographer will know how to direct you for poses and angles that feel comfortable and look flattering. The more relaxed you are, the better your photos will turn out.

Beyond the Headshot: Incorporating Lifestyle Photography

While traditional headshots focus on your face, lifestyle photography gives you the chance to showcase more of your personality and environment. These shots are ideal for:

Personal Branding: Lifestyle images can highlight your hobbies, interests, or unique personality traits. If you’re a yoga instructor, for example, a shot of you in a serene studio adds context to your brand. These headshot, lifestyle, and branding sessions are perfect for a variety of creative fields, including yoga instructors, musicians, and even other photographers.

Business Marketing: Lifestyle photography is great for companies that want to emphasize authenticity and relatability. If you’re a creative entrepreneur or small business owner, showing yourself at work in your natural environment can help clients feel more connected to you.

Social Media and Website Content: Looser, lifestyle-inspired shots are versatile and can be used across platforms. From your About Me page to Instagram posts, these images give you plenty of material to work with throughout the year.

Headshot sessions aren't just for adults - they can be a fun and personalized way to capture your child's personality and milestones, offering a twist on the traditional school picture. With a relaxed environment, kids can feel comfortable and confident, resulting in photos that truly reflect who they are.

What to Expect During Your Session

Your headshot session doesn’t have to be stiff or stressful. Here's what you can expect when working with a professional photographer:

1. Consultation: Your photographer will discuss your goals and preferences, including wardrobe, background options, and how you want to use the photos.

2. The Shoot: Most sessions last around an hour, giving you plenty of time to settle in and capture a variety of looks. Your photographer will guide you through poses and expressions to ensure you get all the shots you need.

3. Image Delivery: After the session, your photographer will provide fully edited images for you in full-resolution with unlimited printing and usage rights.

A professional headshot is an investment in yourself and your career. It’s a chance to present your best self to the world and build confidence in your personal or business brand.

As we step into 2025, there’s no better time to update your image. Whether you want a classic, close-up headshot or a series of lifestyle portraits, a fresh photo session will help you stand out and make lasting impressions.

As a senior photographer, I had the privilege of capturing so many incredible moments in 2024. Each session was unique, and I loved working with every senior to bring their vision to life. Choose a Location That Tells Your Story
Think about places that hold special meaning to you—whether it's your favorite park, a downtown area with lots of character, or a spot tied to your hobbies or interests. Incorporating these personal elements will make your session feel unique and authentic. One standout session was a skating session at a warehouse in downtown Raleigh. The energy was electric, and the urban setting created the perfect contrast for bold, edgy shots.

Another unforgettable moment was a session inspired by Taylor Swift’s Folklore album, set against the dreamy backdrop of a farm. The soft, ethereal vibe of the photos captured the perfect blend of nature and nostalgia.

Throughout the year, I had the opportunity to shoot across various locations, from Raleigh to Durham and Holly Springs, each area offering something special. Whether it was the lush greenery of a farm or the vibrant city scene, each backdrop added a unique flavor to every session.

Bring Items That Reflect Your Personality
Whether it’s a musical instrument, sports gear, art supplies, or even your favorite book, meaningful items can make your photos more distinctive. They help tell the story of who you are at this exciting stage of life.

Plan for Golden Hour Lighting
Schedule your session during golden hour—the hour after sunrise or before sunset—for dramatic light. This creates a dreamy atmosphere, making your photos feel extra magical and ensuring your portraits stand out.

I'm so grateful to have worked with such a diverse group of seniors this past year. Your creativity and spirit made each session memorable, and I’m beyond excited to share these highlights with you! Stay tuned for more as I continue to capture senior moments in 2025!

When it comes to capturing senior portraits that stand out, the location is everything. For Miles Lewis, a passionate skateboarder with a James Dean-esque vibe, we shot at an industrial warehouse area near downtown Raleigh, NC. The raw, gritty surroundings perfectly complemented Miles' laid-back yet edgy style, creating a unique and unforgettable portrait session.

The setting served as the ideal backdrop for a skateboarder like Miles. His bright blue eyes and effortlessly cool demeanor added to the vibe, making each shot feel natural and full of life. Whether perched against a warehouse wall or practicing a skateboarding move, Miles truly looked the part.

The weather that day was equally ideal. The light was warm, vibrant, and dramatic—just the right touch to enhance the urban setting. The sunlight highlighted Miles' features, casting striking shadows and giving the portraits a cinematic quality. The combination of location, lighting, and Miles' natural charisma resulted in images that are not only stunning but also reflect his personality.

Senior Portraits with Chloe Price in Raleigh, NC and Holly Springs, NC

Capturing senior portraits is always a rewarding experience, but working with Chloe Price was truly special. Both days offered perfect weather, giving us ideal conditions to make the most of these stunning locations.

Chloe was an absolute natural in front of the camera. Her striking blue eyes added a unique vibrancy to every shot, whether we were capturing her in the architectural beauty of the NC Art Museum or the serene, natural backdrop of Sugg Farm. Her comfort and ease in front of the lens made the process effortless, and it was a joy to see her personality shine through in each image.

Keira McNierney: A Senior Session at Sugg Farm

In the heart of Holly Springs, amidst the rolling fields of Sugg Farm, I recently had the pleasure of photographing Keira McNierney, a young woman whose journey I’ve had the privilege of documenting since she was a little girl. As storm clouds loomed overhead, threatening to dampen our plans, Keira's vibrant spirit shone through, illuminating the day with a glow of determination and excitement for the future.

Keira's session at Sugg Farm marks a significant milestone in her life as she prepares to embark on a new chapter at UNC Charlotte in the fall. It's been fun watching her grow up, and I have no doubt that she will bring the same passion and determination to her college years that she has shown throughout her life.

Senior Portrait Session with Georgia Tonnessen

On a stunning spring day that felt more like early summer, I had the pleasure of photographing Georgia Tonnessen for her senior portraits at the North Carolina Museum of Art. The museum's beautiful architecture and the lush greenery of its grounds provided a perfect backdrop for this lovely young lady.

What made this session even more special is that I've known Georgia's family for years. In fact, Georgia was in my daughter Lauren's kindergarten class, so reuniting with her and her mom Holly was delightful. Holly is truly one of the sweetest people I know, and it was wonderful to catch up with them.

The session itself was flawless. The light was perfect, and Georgia was an absolute joy to work with. Her easygoing nature and natural grace made capturing her essence effortless. And of course, I couldn't help but reflect on how much she's grown since those kindergarten days.

As we wrapped up the session, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for Georgia's future. She's set to attend the University of North Carolina, and I have no doubt that she will excel in whatever she sets her mind to. I look forward to seeing the incredible things she will accomplish.

This session was not just about capturing beautiful images; it was about celebrating a remarkable young woman as she embarks on a new chapter in her life. Georgia, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this special moment, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
